Contemporary Hand is the work of Aubrey jo Blue and combines many mediums in various quotidian or art objects depending on the occasion.
Though their background is in fine art and the world of public art museums, Aubrey is now a community mender and craft educator in Appalachia who teaches hand stitching, mending, quilting, block print, and natural dye processes.
Aubrey writes a weekly newsletter called Meaning/Making in which they explore textile history and spirituality in addition to material and gendered issues in folk art.
Aubrey also has a Patreon for instructional videos and block printed patches. Click on the image to learn more.
Aubrey teaches a seasonal class at the Dairy Barn Arts Center called Print & Patch. Improvisation and creativity are at the forefront of this block printing and hand quilting class. To check availability and learn more about Dairy Barn offerings, click here
